In the new business climate of Sarbanes Oxley, more stringent SEC rules and deadlines, and PCAOB oversight, external audit firms have, by necessity, become more of a 'regulatory compliance' role player, often times creating significant tension between themselves and their clients. Companies no longer can use their audit firms as sounding boards for advice or real time assistance with their accounting and finance issues or projects.
